These are believed to have been first made by the monks at the Jerónimos Monastery, in modern day Lisbon, before the turn of 18th century. The recipe has traveled around the world and is enjoyed in Europe, the Americas and Asia. These rustic confections, which have a delicate lemon flavor, can be eaten warm or cold, sprinkled with cinnamon, or just plain. We at Silva Bakery make them fresh every Saturday morning for your enjoyment. These can also be ordered ahead of time; they will be made for you on the day of pick up. It is an absolute favorite amongst our customers!
